Steering Committee

The Steering Committee is elected or peer-selected for one year. The Steering Committee is composed of regional facilitators and thematic facilitators and is responsible for policy coherence, regional coordination, oversight of working groups and general governance functions of the constituency.

Ex-officio seats are provided for current and one term former Global Coordinators, and for youth group from the country of UNEA-Presidency to be represented in the Steering Committee.

Clarence Gio Almoite (Philippines)

SEED4COM

Clarence is currently a Forestry student at Benguet State University in the Philippines. Aside from being a student in the academe, he is currently the Project Coordinator of Sustainable Energy and Enterprise Development for Communities (SEED4COM). He currently leads a project in urban permaculture farming of SEED4COM in the Philippines. He is also a Climate Reality Leader trained by former US Vice President Al Gore last July 2020 Global Training. Clarence is an environmental advocate and a lover of Biodiversity most specifically the local Flora.

Zuhair Ahmed Kowshik (Bangladesh)

Being a Bangladeshi born, Zuhair is very loyal towards ‘Mother Nature’. He has ample experience of working with different organizations and institutions ranging from Government agencies to academic institutions, NGOs, youth associations, etc. He has completed his graduation and post-graduation from the Institute of Disaster Management and Vulnerability Studies, University of Dhaka. As a recognition of his environmental works, Zuhair was awarded the ‘Hanyang (South Korea) Youth Changemaker Award’ in 2017.

(Honours) in Agriculture Economics, I am passionate about action-oriented research that speaks to our needs as youth, in-cooperates our voices and nurtures home-grown solutions. My research portfolio covers agriculture, policy analysis, youth, sustainability and food security within and beyond Zimbabwe.

Hassan Mowlid Yasin is professionally qualified in Public Health and Public Administration. He is also a Global Climate Change Teacher, Environmental Activist, Advocate for Climate Change Solutions, Humanitarian Worker, working towards achieving UN sustainable Development Goals & Working towards Youth and Women Empowerment. He is co-founder and vice chairperson at Somali Greenpeace Association.

Vania Olmos Lau

Christianne is a young advocate from Trinidad and Tobago who believes in living in harmony with the environment. Having been passionate about the environment from a young age, she pursued her BSc in Environmental Science at the University of the West Indies from 2015 to 2019, and in 2020, began her MSc in Biodiversity, Conservation, and Sustainable Development, through which she hopes to segue into a career in environmental law and governance. She has also spoken publicly about the need for plastics regulation and the importance of the Escazu Agreement.

Neeshad Shafi (Qatar)

Arab Youth Climate Movement (AYCM)

Neeshad Shafi is an Environmentalist, Speaker and Social Change Advocate. He holds a master’s degree in Environmental Engineering and based in Doha, Qatar. He has over 6 years of experience in analyzing global environmental and climate policies with a special focus on the Gulf and Middle East. An active member of several global environmental NGO’s and has contributed actively in international summits. In March 2019, he was named in the Apolitical’s List of the 100 Most Influential People in Climate Policy 2019.
