Calling upon youth and youth groups globally to engage in the Stockholm+50 process!
What is Stockholm+50?
“Stockholm+50: a healthy planet for the prosperity of all – our responsibility, our opportunity”, is an international UN meeting that will take place on 2 and 3 June 2022, during the week of World Environment Day, to commemorate the 50 years since the 1972 United Nations Conference on the Human Environment and its outcome documents.
The anniversary and the high-level meeting are an opportunity for the international community to strengthen cooperation and show leadership in the transformation towards a more sustainable society, in line with the declaration that was recently adopted in conjunction with the marking of the 75th anniversary of the UN. You can read more about it here. UNEP serves as the coordinating UN agency for this process.
Stockholm+50 and its process will drive contribution to the environmental dimension of sustainable development. This will accelerate the implementation of commitments in the context of the decade of action and delivery for sustainable development, including a sustainable recovery from COVID19 pandemic. The role of young people in this transformation will be considered, as well as what role nature-based solutions can play. A development perspective will also be integrated throughout the meeting.
Youth Engagement ! Apply for the Stockholm+50 Youth Task Force!
Over the course of the last few months, we have been in communication with the host of Stockholm+50 - Sweden on possibilities and cooperation for youth engagement and participation in the process of Stockholm+50. Youth engagement will be a core aspect of Stockholm+50, with the intention to engage youth from diverse backgrounds, communities and organisations.
We are delighted to invite you to apply to join the Stockholm+50 Youth Task Force that would lead and facilitate the formal preparation, inputs and engagement of young people in the process of Stockholm+50. Over the last months, the youth constituency has worked on a possible roadmap and engagement framework for youth in the Stockholm+50 process, with support of the government of Sweden - the host of the Stockholm+50 meeting.
The Youth Task Force, among other activities, will coordinate and provide substantive youth inputs to the various aspects of Stockholm+50, enable and map youth consultations, mobilise wider youth communities and facilitate engagement of a range of formal and informal youth groups in the Stockholm+50 process. There might be opportunities for funding of the work of the Task Force later in 2021.
Interested to apply?
We would like to invite interested youth and youth groups to become part of the Stockholm+50 Task Force and help drive engagement. We welcome a diverse range of youth groups including those that do not have experiences previously with the UN and international processes! Public announcement of the Task Force will be done later in this month!
