Funded spots for participation to Stockholm+50 Pre-Meeting New York

On behalf of the Children and Youth Major Group of UNEP, we are pleased to make this announcement to young people and youth organisations world-wide to participate at the Stockholm+50 Pre-Meeting in New York on Monday, 28 March 2022, at the General Assembly Hall at United Nations Headquarters in New York.   

 

  • “Stockholm+50: a healthy planet for the prosperity of all – our responsibility, our opportunity”, is an international meeting that will take place on the 2nd and 3rd of June 2022, during the week of World Environment Day, to commemorate the 50 years since the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment and its outcome documents, accelerate global action and delivery for sustainable development, including a sustainable recovery from COVID19 pandemic. UNEP serves as the coordinating UN agency for this process. This provides an opportunity for the international community to strengthen cooperation and show leadership in the transformation towards a more sustainable society.
     

  • A one-day preparatory meeting for Stockholm+50 will be held on Monday, 28 March 2022 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The meeting is to be convened by the President of the General Assembly and will be chaired by the Stockholm+50 co-hosts, Sweden and Kenya. The objective of the meeting is to consider the preparations for the leadership dialogues and other preparations for the international meeting. The meeting will be structured around three consecutive interactive discussions on the preparations for the three Stockholm+50 Leadership Dialogues. The preparatory meeting will be held in-person (with COVID-related restrictions applicable at the time of the meeting) with live web streaming on UN Web TV with interpretation in the six official languages of the United Nations. 

Funded Opportunity 


With support from the Nordic Council of Ministers (NCM), government of Sweden and the UNEP Secretariat, we are pleased to announce that up to 4 - 6 funded spots for participation are available for young people for the Stockholm+50 Pre-Meeting in New York. The funded opportunity is intended to bring children and youth from different regions of the world to New York, with aim to a) provide concrete inputs to the Stockholm+50 Pre-Meeting specifically on the three leadership dialogues, b) build capacity among children and youth when it comes to their understanding of United Nations processes and environmental governance b) enable policy advocacy of children and youth in the relevant negotiations towards more environmental protection and meaningful youth engagement. Please note that the final number of the youth that can participate at the Pre-Meeting at the UN is dependent on the COVID rules.
