Global Youth Consultation Survey for the UNEP Medium Term Strategy 2022-2025: GIVE INPUTS NOW!


We are pleased to invite you to Youth Consultation Survey for the UNEP Medium Term Strategy 2022-2025 designed by the Children and Youth Major Group to UNEP.


This survey aims to collect voices of youth, youth groups, youth-focussed groups and also agencies and institutions across the UN system (who work on youth issues) to share their views, vision and perspective on how UN Environment Programme can become an institution that reflects the needs and priorities of young people.

UNEP is finalising its Medium Term Strategy (MTS) for the period 2022-2025. This comes at a critical time for global environmental action, as we face enormous environmental challenges and collectively battle a global pandemic. The strategy process represents a tremendous opportunity for UNEP to review and strengthen its organizational performance as a way to achieve the transformation change as called for in the 2030 Agenda, including budget priorities and inclusion of stakeholders in the environmental governance. 


  • The MTS summarizes these efforts in 3 thematic programmes: Climate Action, Nature Action, Chemical & Pollution Action. 

  • Those are supported by enabling and foundational programme: Finance & Economic Transformations. Digital Transformations, Environmental Governance, Science & Policy. 


While the first consultative draft of the MTS that was made available in June 2020 did not reference youth, after advocacy by Children and Youth Major Group at the June 2020 Bureau meeting of UNEA, the second narrative draft evolved with over six references to youth and a section on major group engagement. Furthermore, in August 2020 UNEP Secretariat organised a consultation session with youth to take more detailed feedback on the strategy. Read summary HERE.
